April 26, 2012: Public Awareness Rally at UH Manoa Campus Center, 11am-1pm
This event gives the Chapter an opportunity to promote the profession of landscape architecture to the student community at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. We’ll be reaching out to students and teachers with handouts, LA magazines, and goodies to fill them in on what exactly a landscape architect is and does. It is our hope this will translate into increased interest in the study of landscape architecture. If you can’t make it, help us by simply letting someone know what you do!May 19, 2012: LEED Gold Site Tour and Community Service Project at the Nanakuli Boys and Girls Club
The Nanakuli Boys and Girls Club has invited the Hawaii ASLA membership for a private site tour and presentation of Hawaii’s recent LEED Platinum project on Oahu. The tour will also give members an opportunity to give back to the community by assisting in the maintenance and clean up of the newly installed landscape. June 22, 2012 : “HASLA Talks” Presentation with Neil Weinstein from Low Impact Development Center, Maryland
Neil Weinstein, P.E., R.L.A., AICP, MASCE is the Executive Director and one of the founders of the Low Impact Development Center. The LID Center has been and continues to be at the forefront of applying LID strategies and techniques. Neil was developed the original LID Prince George’s County (MD) manual, the precursor to the National LID manual. Neil is a registered engineer and landscape architect and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the ASCE Urban Water Resources Research Council. He has an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a M.L.A. from the University of Georgia. For the last 10 years Neil has primarily been focused on the planning, research, and design of innovative storm water management practices, including LID. Prior to that he worked as a development engineer and planner on municipal, institutional, and private sector projects.July 12+13, 2012: Google SketchUp – 3D Modeling Course
Daniel Tal will be making his way back to Hawaii for SketchUp courses on July 12 and 13, 2012 at the Honolulu Community College computer lab on Dillingham Blvd. The first day will be geared towards beginners who have a desire to learn the basics in landscape architecture modeling with little or no knowledge of the program. The second day will be focused on Advanced Modeling techniques and the latest in 3-D rendering and animation videos that can exported directly from SketchUp.September 14, 2012: Hawaii ASLA Design Awards Gala, Pacific Club Honolulu
